FTSE 100 index has been introduced on 3 January 1984 at the base level of 1000. From Yahoo! Finance you can download FTSE 100 data back until 2 April 1984. One of the most complete set of silver's historical data can be downloaded from Stooq.com. Stooq.com's data of silver goes back until 1792 (!). Of course you can not await full EOD data for the 18th century, but it is still quite interesting... Stooq.com is a Polish website, but some parts of it is transleted into English. Do not be afraid of it, you can download silver data without knowing anything about Polish language! (You can also try using Google translate.
